Red Deer’s Rebecca Smith and Canada finished fourth in the 4×200 metre relay Wednesday night.
Canada finished just off the podium in fourth but set a Canadian record in the process, with a time of 7:43.77. China earned gold, the United States were second and Australia finished in the bronze medal position. Smith had a time of 1:57.30, swimming second of Canada’s four swimmers.
The 21-year-old had one medal in her first Olympic appearance. The Red Deer product and her team Canada crew collected silver on Saturday in the 4x100m freestyle relay.
